Welcome to the San Juan Islands Chapter "OUR PAST IS OUR PRESENT AND OUR FUTURE"
Welcome to our chapter website. San Juan Islands DAR Chapter is located on the many islands in San Juan County, WA. Our chapter was established in 1979. Our chapter motto is “Our Past is Our Present and Our Future.” The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization. The missions laid forth in the first meeting of the DAR have remained the same over 125 years of active service to the nation. The three “Pillars” of DAR are: Historical- to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence. Educational- to promote education for the development of an informed public. Patriotic- to cherish, maintain, and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of liberty. Membership encompasses any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution. Membership has a wide range of ages and interests. If you would like to find out if one of your ancestors fought for or helped in the cause of American freedom during the American Revolution, or if you are interested in learning more, or in membership, please contact our registrar or check out the NSDAR website.
